We’re Not Normal! Fit’n Dance series by equin-co

Heeeeey Fellas, long time, no see, huh? I am not going to give the excuse ” golly, i’ve been under satan’s yoke doing this and that” (even though it’s an accurate excuse)

But I was enjoying this specific project quite a lot! It did take a lot of time, and effort, sure, but on top of that the quantity was really notable!

One of the members of this  “Dance Club” contacted me asking for matching t-shirts for all of the students in their class. (A very diverse crowd, mind you, ranging from 40 year-olds to 8 year olds)

So I was more than happy to do it, it was also hilarious that they wanted “We’re not Normal!” written on top of  each shirt, with lip figures for girls and satan’s prong for boys. To make things more ‘couture’, I suggested we make each lip a different shade of red/rose and the prongs vivid green. They wanted purple letters on top of white t-shirts.

Heeeeey, dostlar, uzun zaman oldu degil mi? Peki, tamam size “Offf cok yogundum, kafami kasiyamiyordum” bahanesini vermeyecegim. (Gercekler bu olsa da…. )

Beyaz tisortler uzerine mor renkte “We’re not normal!” (normal degiliz) yazmami istediler.

I came up with this:

“we’re not normal!” typographic design in purple and green on white cotton t-shirt. design hand lettering by equin-co™.

When I got the “Aaaaweesomeeee” feedback I wanted from the client, I went for it for the girls, but I used different shades of pinks and purples just to keep me instrested to paint the same design over and over again.

–  –  –  –  –  –

“Hariiiiikaaaa olmuuus” cevabini aldiktan sonra, kizlarinkini yapmaya basladim. Ayni deseni cok sayida tisorte tek tek yaparken hem sikilmayayim, hem de ilginclik olsun diye farkli tonlardaki pembe ve morlari yazilarda da kullandim.

I even patterned the inside of some letters (we’re) with dots and lines and grid. (Yes, I am crazy just like that)

–  –  –  –  –  –

I made a sum of 14 t-shirts, I even threw in some “I’m not normal!”s which was the initial order, but then the class changed their mind. Since the typography (and the philosophy!) on the t-shirts were so good, the client wanted them anyway, and who was I to refuse?

–  –  –  –  –  –

Toplam 14 tane tisort yaptim.

(I went a little overboard with this one ^ patterning ALL the letters)

And here are the labels: Fit’n Dance by equin-co!

Drummm rolllllllllllllll!

(Yukaridakinde biraz abartiya kacip tum harflerin icini desenledim)

Asagida etiketler; “Fit’n Dance by equin-co”

Tutunuuuuuuun!

I only miss you when I’m Breathing.. aaah.

Hand lettered in ink on paper and digitized caption “I only miss you when i’m breathing”

Proceeding with song lyrics…

Today’s song is “Breathing” by Jason Derulo. I’m all for listening to mainstream radio and pop music at the moment, so, sorry this is all you get guys.

🙂

But I do like the lyrics of this song, and you can listen to it here.

I have felt like I miss someone like, as I’m breathing, every second. I know lots of people who have felt the same, so this gooey romantic piece goes for all of us 🙂

Not necessarily suffering, though. You can still miss and love someone without the pain and the drama, just sheer joy and sweet blues when you are not around them. (You know I like to keep things light’n’happy, come on.)

So, enjoy today’s drawing!

Cheers and happy week!

Imagine…

OK, I know lately I’ve been into “you’re amazing” and “always know you can” and be happy  and self-help stuff and bla bla…

I can easily say that I am not hardcore into these kind of stuff. But, (and that is a BIG but) I *know* you can improve a lot and achieve much better when you follow common sense and embrace an open mind.

Whenever I come across a self-help book, (you know it, I have read a dozen of those!) I immediately search the substructure of the whole idea. Be it the author, the geographics, the politics or the economic culture behind it, IF I find a connection that touches my heart and appeals to me, that means the *method* is right. Speaking of which, I am not into “methods” at all. To me, the ultimate positive thinking is really, really embrace the momentary situation you are in. Be content with it. Be content with yourself. Everything is not going to be okay, Everything is OK right now. I mean what excuse are you going to come up with to prove me wrong? Deep in everyone’s heart, I know all kinds of thinking and perceiving are positive, anyway.

The human nature is thought to be incapable. We practice our incapabilities everyday through media, health system, even through politics. The fact can not be further from it, the human race is capable of great things.

This is not faith, not a new age philosophy, nothing with a fancy label. Just common sense.

Anyways:) Enough with the seriousness, here is today’s drawing,

Remember: You CAN Imagine!!!

Don’t let you hold back yourself 🙂

Cheers!

Hands up in the air, People who don’t Work!

A job you love=never working another day
caption in color ink

There is a famous Turkish actor that once in an interview said, “I have never worked a day in my life.”
He  enjoys what he does and it obviously shows as he is very good at what he does.

I also always hear my father saying “I am having fun. What is this, work? We don’t work, we live, we enjoy what we do and make a living out of it.”

I must state that although he is an architect and the most artsy person I know, he “works” very hard. He is always on the run, always productive and creative. If that doesn’t teach me the key of life, I don’t know what will.

🙂

Being blown away with the invention I just had; I doodled something at the office, only to realize, this *thing* I love passionately should give me the life I deserve!

So here you go; the text should tell it all.

Anyway, though, I am still very young and working at a design office *as well as* making free lance work is not tiring me at all ! Not yet anyways, but I would definitely want to resign. Making everyone so happy with my t-shirts so that I am very happy with my creations and earnings! That’s the goal 🙂

Have a super nice week, everyone!

Behind the Scenes, the Making Process!

I had this documenting-my-work-as-I-go thought in my mind for a while, but with this specific order I got from a collage friend, (who is very picky on things and likes them neat!) I decided to photograph my very basic steps.

The very first step to creation is- of course- come up with a design. I chill for a little bit, lounge, browse the web, listen to music, I don’t know, I do something that  would alert my insides to sketch something.

After that part has come, I SKETCH! Doodle, play around, make variations of stuff what I like best, and what I assume the client would like best.

Then comes the application part. First I draw with a pencil. Because when I make mistakes, I can easily erase them. I align the design, set the size and draw!

design close up

After I manage to get through the pile of markers and tubes of paint and tons of sketch papers, I see my beautiful t-shirt between the clouds :p

I decide the colors, as in the sketch something may look good, but on the actual t-shirt, it is a whole new story. With white, i can guesstimate close enough, but especially with darker fabrics, I improvise, umm, almost always!

Besides, the textile paint comes in variations (glitter, metallic) of textures which is hard to mimic on sketch version. So basically, once I have the design idea, I play as I go. 🙂

application of the final design

So you can see I already took a tube of red paint and started applying the design! This part is both fun and scary, because I don’t want to mess up big time with textile paint. I mean, If I do something tiny I can save it right away when it’s wet, but major screw ups are a No-no !

And the FINALE !

Hope she appreciates the fact that I documented my steps and creation process for the Upcoming Madonna concert in Turkey this June.

I will do more Madonna T-shirts posts in the coming days!

Cheers,
